How partner rotation works
- Enter one player name per line — duplicate names get numbered automatically.
- Set the number of tables you have and how many rounds to play, or let the tool suggest a round count for your player total.
- Hit “Generate rotation”: each round splits players into new 2v2 pairings across your tables, so partners and opponents change as the rounds go on.
- Track each player's own points as you play — in Americano/Mexicano scoring, a player's total is theirs alone even though their partner changes every round.
- Print the schedule, or copy it as text for the group chat.
How the fixed-team schedule works
- Enter one team per line, each as two names separated by “&” (for example “Anna & Ben”) — duplicate team names get numbered automatically.
- Set how many tables you have, and turn on “play each other twice” for a home-and-away round robin instead of a single meeting.
- Hit “Generate team schedule”: every team plays every other team using the same round-robin method as the round robin group generator, spread across your tables round by round.
- Print the schedule, or copy it as text for the group chat.
What is Americano / Mexicano doubles?
Americano and Mexicano are doubles formats built around rotating partners rather than fixed pairs: every round, players are re-paired into new teams of two, so across a session each player gets a mix of different partners and opponents instead of playing the whole night with the same person. Scoring is tracked per player rather than per team — a player's total comes from every round they played, whoever their partner was that round. It's a common format for social and club sessions because nobody is stuck with, or against, the same person all evening.
Round robin between set doubles pairs
Fixed teams is the doubles version of a group round robin: instead of individual players, the entries are pairs that stay together for the whole session. Every team plays every other team once (or twice with the home-and-away option), using the same round-robin scheduling as PingPong Arena's round robin group generator — just with a team name like “Anna & Ben” standing in for a single player. Use this when your doubles pairs are already decided and you just need a fair schedule for them.

What's the difference between rotating partners and fixed teams?
Rotating partners (Americano/Mexicano-style) re-pairs players into new teams of two every round, so individuals build up their own points with a mix of partners over the session. Fixed teams keeps your doubles pairs together for a full round robin against every other pair, the same way the round robin group generator schedules individual players.
How many players do I need for rotating partners?
At least 4 — one table's worth. More players just means more tables or more rounds; if your count doesn't divide evenly across tables, the sit-out rotates so nobody misses two rounds in a row.
How many teams do I need for fixed teams?
At least 3, so every pair has more than one opponent to play. Enter each team as two names on one line, for example “Anna & Ben”.
Can I use this for padel or pickleball, not just table tennis?
Yes. Rotating-partner doubles and fixed-team round robins are used across padel, pickleball, tennis and table tennis — the schedule works the same regardless of sport; PingPong Arena just calls the playing surface a “table”.
Does the schedule guarantee every partner combination happens exactly once?
For 4, 8, 12 or 16 players — any count divisible by four, up to 60 players — yes: with the suggested number of rounds, every player partners each other player exactly once and no partnership repeats. That's built into how those rotations are constructed, not left to chance. With other player counts (where someone sits out each round), or if you ask for more rounds than there are possible partners, the generator keeps repeats as rare as it can but cannot rule them out.
Can I switch between rotating partners and fixed teams for the same group?
Yes. Enter your list, generate one format, and if you'd rather run fixed pairs instead of rotation (or the other way round), switch the format and generate again.
Is there a limit on the number of players or teams?
No hard limit — enter as many players or teams as your session has. Club-sized groups (up to a few dozen players) generate instantly; very long lists of 100 or more players can take several seconds to build.
