Most PingPong Arena clubs run without table referees or live point-by-point scoring: players walk over and report the final score once a game is over, and the organiser types it in. This is the single most-used screen in the app on a real club night, so this guide is deliberately exhaustive — every button, every state, and the one thing it honestly cannot do yet.
If you've been keeping score in a table tennis club standings spreadsheet, this is the workflow that replaces it: enter the set score once, and standings, brackets, and player records update themselves.
Entering a result for the first time
Tap a match card on the Games screen — a match either just assigned to a table (Ready) or already Live. The Final Result screen opens, with the subtitle "Enter sets score for this match."
Each player has their own column with a + button, a large score number, and a − button underneath. The score you're entering is a set count — how many sets each side has won — not individual points. Tap + under a player's name each time they win a set. Tap − to correct a misclick before confirming.
The score display and the confirm button react to what you've entered so far, so you always know exactly what state the entry is in:
- If neither side has reached the sets needed to win yet, the confirm button reads "Reach {count} Sets to Win" and is disabled — you cannot confirm an incomplete result.
- If the two sides are tied and at least one set has been recorded, the button reads "Tied — No Winner" and stays disabled — the app will not accept a drawn match.
- Once one side has reached the required majority of sets (for example 3 of 5, or 2 of 3, whatever best-of was set for this stage), the button becomes active and reads "Confirm Result."
- Tap Confirm Result: the match is marked finished, standings recalculate immediately, and — if this was a finals-bracket match — the app automatically switches you to the Finals view so you can see who advances.
- Cancel at any point closes the screen without saving anything.
Correcting a result you already entered wrong
This is the everyday case — someone reported the wrong score, or you mis-tapped.
Tap the same match card again. Because it's already finished, the screen title changes automatically to Correct Result, with the subtitle "Update sets score for this match." A red warning banner appears at the top reading "Editing a finished result," with the text "This will update standings and may affect bracket advancement." Read it — if this match already decided who advanced to a final, changing it can change that outcome too.
The score steppers show the currently recorded result. Adjust it with the same +/− buttons as before, then tap Confirm Result to save the corrected score in place. This overwrites the existing result directly — you do not need to erase or revert the match first.
A corrected match is marked with an "Edited" tag on its card afterward, and its set history is visible under Set history on the card — so you and your players can see a result was changed, not just what it currently reads.
Undoing a match entirely — Revert to Unplayed
Use this only when the match itself was a mistake — wrong pairing, a game that never actually happened, or you need to erase it completely rather than just fix the score.
Open the finished match (the Correct Result screen, as above) and tap the full-width Revert to Unplayed button — styled in red, below the score entry, always visible for a finished match. This removes the recorded result and returns the match to unplayed status; from there it behaves like a match that was never scored.
This can be refused, and the app tells you exactly why:
- "A later round has already been played with this winner." — you must clear the later match(es) that used this result first.
- "The final stage was already generated from these standings." — clear the final stage first, then revert this match.
- "That match no longer exists." — a rare case where the match was already removed some other way.
Resetting an unfinished match
If a match hasn't been confirmed yet and you just want to clear what you've typed before it's saved, a smaller Reset Match option — rather than the full-width Revert button, since there's no finished result yet to revert — clears the score and setup for that entry. The app is explicit that this cannot be undone.
For point-by-point live scoring instead
If your club scores live, point by point, from a phone — rather than a final score typed in after the fact — that's a separate flow using scorer links. This guide only covers manual, after-the-fact result entry; nothing above requires or assumes live scoring is in use.
Honest limits — read this before you need it
- There is no "reset the score to 0:0 while keeping the match live" option. Your two choices for a wrong or premature entry are: Correct Result — type the right final score in over the wrong one, in place — or Revert to Unplayed — erase the result entirely and start that match over from scratch. There is no middle path that clears a live match's score back to 0:0 without also un-assigning it as a finished result.
- Revert to Unplayed can be blocked by anything downstream that already used the result (a later bracket round, a generated final stage) — see the refusal messages above. Clear the dependency first.
- A tied score can never be confirmed. The app will not let you record a drawn match; every entry must have a winner.
- Doubles and Big Field / Giant Round Robin matches use this exact same Correct Result / Revert flow — nothing about result entry itself changes by format.
Common questions
How do I enter table tennis match scores manually?
Tap the match card on the Games screen to open the Final Result screen, tap + under each player's name once per set they won, and tap Confirm Result once the button reads "Confirm Result" rather than a disabled prompt.
Can I fix a score after it's already confirmed?
Yes. Tap the same match card again — it opens as Correct Result with a warning banner, and you can adjust and re-confirm the score in place. No need to revert first.
What's the difference between Correct Result and Revert to Unplayed?
Correct Result overwrites the existing score with a new one, in place. Revert to Unplayed erases the result entirely and returns the match to unplayed status, for a mistaken pairing or a game that never happened.
Why won't Revert to Unplayed work on a match?
It's blocked if a later bracket round already used this result, or if the final stage was already generated from these standings. Clear that dependency first, then revert.
Can the app record a tied match?
No. A tied score can never be confirmed — every entry must have a winner before the Confirm Result button becomes active.
