Check players in before you start

5 min read

Check-in lets you mark who has actually shown up before you draw the tournament, so a no-show doesn't get a group slot they'll never fill. This guide covers every way to check players in — and states plainly, up front, which plan you need for it, because that's the first thing that will trip you up.

Read this first: check-in is a Club Pro feature

Check-in — every part of it described below, including the host simply tapping a player as "here" — sits behind the same plan gate as self-registration. In the app's own words, it's treated as one capability: players managing their own attendance.

  • Free and Club plans do not have check-in at all, not even the basic host tick-off version.
  • Club Pro is the plan that includes it — and Club Pro is currently listed as "Coming soon" and is not yet available to buy.
  • If you're on Free or Club today, the check-in screens described below are not reachable in your account. This guide documents how check-in works so you know what you're getting if Club Pro becomes available, and so nothing here is a promise of something you can turn on today.

How check-in works, on a plan that has it

Open check-in from the Players tab — the screen title reads "Match check-in." If check-in is off, a hint reads: "Open check-in to mark who's actually here before you start." Tap Open check-in. Once open, a hint confirms what it does: "Only checked-in players are drawn when you start." A counter shows "N of Total checked in." You can turn it back off at any time with Close check-in.

Option A — Host tick-off, one player at a time

Next to each player's name, tap Check in (or the Here state once marked). Tapping again unmarks them — the app's own labels for this toggle are "Mark {{name}} as here" / "Mark {{name}} as not here."

Option B — Check in all, in one tap

Tap Check in all to mark every player on the roster as present in one action — useful when you know everyone listed is actually in the room and you don't want to tap each name. Clear all reverses it, unmarking everyone at once.

Option C — Self check-in via the join link

Share your tournament's join link or QR code with players — the same link used for self-registration, if you also let players add their own names before the event.

  • A player who opens the link and is already on the roster sees: "You're on the list. Tap below to tell the organiser you've arrived."
  • They tap I'm here. While it's processing it reads "Checking in…"; on success, "You're checked in — good luck!"
  • If something goes wrong, they see an honest error and can try again rather than a silent failure.

Doubles check-in is attendance-only

For a Doubles event, check-in hints read differently: "Open check-in to note which teams are here — attendance only" and "Attendance note only — check-in doesn't limit which teams can play." In other words, for Doubles, check-in is a record of who's in the room — it does not gate the draw the way it does for singles/groups/ladder events, where only checked-in players are drawn.

Honest limits

  • As stated above, this entire feature is currently unreachable on Free and Club — it requires Club Pro, which is not yet purchasable.
  • Turning check-in off and back on, or restarting the tournament, clears every checked-in flag — check-in state does not carry over from a previous night.
  • For a singles/groups/ladder event, an unchecked player is simply left out of the draw when you start — there is no separate "excuse absent" step; not checking someone in is the way you exclude them.

Common questions

Which plan includes check-in?

Club Pro. Free and Club do not have check-in at all, and Club Pro is currently "Coming soon" — not yet available to buy.

What's the difference between host tick-off and self check-in?

Host tick-off is the organiser tapping each player as here, one at a time or all at once. Self check-in lets players do it themselves by opening the join link or QR code and tapping "I'm here."

Does check-in stop a player from being drawn if they're not checked in?

For singles, groups, and ladder events, yes — only checked-in players are drawn when you start. For Doubles, check-in is attendance-only and does not gate the draw.

Does check-in status carry over to the next club night?

No. Turning check-in off and on, or restarting the tournament, clears every checked-in flag each time.
